Star System

Albedo

Gelida is the first planet in the Albedo Star System. It is an oceanic planet containing an underwater plethora of cave systems and geothermal vents that heat water underneath the ice sheets. Dense ice sheets that float on top of its deep ocean. Being close to its star keeps its surface regulated to an inhabitable (albeit cold) temperature.

Environmental Factors

Deep Sea Temperature Variations: Gelida's surface is covered by dense, thick ice sheets, creating a freezing cold environment. However, beneath the ice, internal thermal vents warm the waters significantly. Accessing these warmer ocean layers requires either drilling equipment or knowledge of existing ice paths.

Pressurized Ocean: The ice sheets trap rising heat in pressure pockets, which often contain oxygen gas. These pockets either melt into the ice—forming caverns and cave systems—or violently explode, scattering sharp debris across the surrounding area.

Retrograde Storms: High-speed winds sweep across Gelida in the opposite direction of the planet's rotation. These powerful air currents carve through snow and ice in unpredictable patterns, smoothing vast sections of the surface and creating planet-spanning canyons.

Oxygen Rich: Gelida's oceans contain abundant oxygen and other life-sustaining elements. This rich environment has enabled the evolution of enormous creatures. Near the heat vents, these massive beings frequently clash with the Shuine people.

Faction Presence

Few major factions hold presence on Gelida:

People

The Shuine are the native inhabitants of Gelida. They are a tall crustacean-like species with chitin carapace covering most of their body.
