Characteristics

Zithans are a varied species between both clades (ethnicities) and forms (subspecies), and are the major sophont species of the planet Zith. Of their forms are Workers (ant-like, barely sapient, about the size of cats), Soldiers (ant-like, barely sapient, bulkier and the size of horses), Nobles (humanoid, fully sapient, slightly taller than humans on average), and Brood Queens (Moth-esque humanoids, sapient and highly psionic, average around 9 ft tall). Of their clades are 22 distinct ones, which vary greatly in both physiology and attached culture.

Culture and Society

Zithans and Zithites have a matriarchal-egalitarian society where equality between selves are held, yet the highest leadership is held by an all-female subspecies thus labeling it as a matriarchy. There is also naturally a greater respect to the fairer sex, even if both genders are responsible and capable for the continued management of a hive.

Regarding employment and jobs of any kind, Zithans are naturally inclined towards 'work', both meaning its contemporary description and any action which benefits the hive as a whole in some way or form, the effect of which is similar to how humans neurochemically react to sugar. Work is crucial for a Zithan's wellbeing, for within a balanced consideration of it one feels energized and mentally stable, yet the lack of work can slowly bring about conditions similar to sleep deprivation.

Abilities

Adept Climbers: Zithans are natural climbers who move across various surfaces as easily as they walk. This ability extends to Nobles as well, though capabilities vary between clades.

Unwilling To Die: Though Zithans are slightly weaker and no more durable than humans, they are remarkably difficult to kill. They can survive the loss of limbs, organs, and even significant brain damage. This resilience varies between clades.

Sensory Integument: Zithans possess spine-like filaments that detect air pressure, movement, and vibrations from distant sources.

Quadrubrachium: Zithans possess four arms and make full use of them, though their secondary pair is smaller and slightly vestigial.

Adaptable Blood: Zithans typically produce hemoglobin (iron-based) blood, but can switch to hemocyanin (copper-based) when oxygen levels are low, helping them survive in oxygen-poor environments. This ability varies between clades.

Psionic Receivers: Through natural evolution, Zithans can receive telepathic messages. Most forms are susceptible to commanding telepathic influences, though Brood Queens are immune to such control.

Biological Secretions: Zithans produce two distinctive substances: "Zithan Sap" and "Zithan Amber." The sweet sap is voluntarily produced from mouth glands and can be dried into a honey-like substance. Amber forms gradually in a specialized organ and can be regurgitated—either to blend with clay for construction or to craft decorations and jewelry. Nobles produce balanced amounts of both secretions.
